All Kings Fall

Async · Turn-based · iPhone

Every attack is announced. Winning is what you do about it.

There's a moment when your opponent steps onto the tile you marked last turn, and you both know it.

A two-player, turn-based strategy duel you play async. Nine by five tiles, a hand of cards, and ranged attacks that land a turn late, so both of you can see them coming.

The orange tile takes 5 damage next turn, whoever is standing on it. Move, brace, or make it their problem.

How it plays

Turn-based tactics, built to be played async.

Chess-sized decisions in a strategy game that fits a quiet minute, with the whole board readable at a glance.

Telegraphed shots

Ranged attacks land a turn late.

A ranger marks a tile now and hits it at the start of its next turn. Whoever stands there takes it, including your own pieces. Dodge, brace, step an ally in the way, or bait a shot onto its own side. Damage or shove the archer and the shot is cancelled.

Action points

Every action costs one. Repeats cost more.

Move, attack, deploy a card, heal, push, brace, guard. Each is one action point, but the same piece acting twice pays two, then three. The opening turns ramp up in order, which is the whole handicap for moving first. No bonus points anywhere.

Async, 48-hour clock

Play when you have a minute.

Take your turn, hand it over, and get a notification when it comes back. Each turn has 48 hours on the clock, and running out is a loss, so no game is left hanging. Undo freely until you tap End Turn.

Two ways to win

All kings fall. Or the center falls first.

Two win conditions keep the strategy honest: turtling loses the center, and charging loses the king.

Regicide

Bring down the enemy Leader.

Lose yours, even to your own telegraphed shot, and you lose on the spot. The Leader starts on the board and fights, but it should never lead the charge.

Control

Hold the center line.

End your turn holding more tiles of the middle row than your opponent and score a control point. Seven points wins. It is judged after the second player's turn, so there is always an answer.

Two rosters

Pick a deck. Your opponent picks theirs blind.

Five pieces each, plus attack and shield cards that stack onto a piece and fall with it. The rosters mirror each other's roles and disagree about everything else, so the strategy changes with the matchup.

Vanguard

Armor and patience.

  • LLeader · Your king. Starts on the board.
  • BBruiser · The front line. Hits hard and instantly.
  • RRanger · Telegraphs a shot onto any tile in range.
  • SSupport · Heals an ally nearby. Never itself.
  • CController · Pushes a piece one tile. Pushes cancel telegraphs.

Marauder

All blade, no armor.

  • LWarchief · A king that wants to fight. Less to spare.
  • BRavager · Hits harder than the Bruiser and folds faster.
  • XSniper · A lethal shot along its own row, forward only. Slow to re-aim.
  • SMender · Sturdier healer, a little less warded.
  • CTrickster · The push, with a different grin.

Discord

Opponents are found in the Discord.

All Kings Fall is async and two-player, so someone has to be on the other side of the board. The Discord is where first-wave players trade friend codes, post their games, and tell us what broke.
